We just came back from SPIE Photonics West where we showed our prototype to the community for the very first time. Compared with the state of the art it has: _A much (much) bigger field of view of 100° horizontal and 60° vertical. Just as comparison, the Apple Vision Pro VR headset, that wants to be an AR headset, has round about 100° horizontal FoV as well. _Very high optical efficiency of ~8%. This is helpful to keep batteries small and the weight low. It defines a new class of augmented reality glasses. But does it look like ordinary glasses? - No. There is an unsolved technical problem out there: How to get a big Apple Vision Pro field of view within the sleep design profile of Ray-Ban glasses? And here the exciting part – we're thrilled to announce that we've successfully tackled this challenge. Stay tuned for more details. Augmented Reality will be consumer ready fast than you think. It is finally happening and it is happening now! Thanks to all our supporters and enablers. Special thanks to Ruth Houbertz and Jose Pozo for introducing us to many decision makers of the AR market at PhotonicsWest. Sony teased a new “spatial content creation” virtual headset at CES 2024. The headset is powered by the Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 platform and outfitted with 4K OLED displays. Sony says its “proprietary rendering technology” allows for “real-time, high-definition and realistic rendering of textures of 3D objects and facial expressions of human characters.” Siemens has partnered with Sony to create this spatial VR headset and the companies aim to “solve real world problems.” According to the Siemens keynote, the device is part of a broader vision to enable an “industrial metaverse,” where mixed reality plays a central role in 3D manufacturing and design processes. #Sony #VR #AR #VisionPro #USA #Canada #News #TechNews #Tech #ITW Image: Sony Siemens

VR glasses predict where you'll be looking next. The Meta Quest 3, Quest Pro and Apple Vision Pro all have a negative latency when it comes to angular motion - that is, rotation of your head movement. The glasses 'get there earlier than you do', and as a side effect, sometime overshoot too. Motion prediction is big part of the VR / XR / AR experience. As rendering the visual content inevitably takes time, predicting where you'll be and starting the rendering ahead of time is a way to make up for it. Do we really have free will? Or are we all that predicatble? Measured by OPTOFIDELITY. #ar #vr #xr #arvr #predictivemodeling #freewill #metaquest3 #applevisionpro https://lnkd.in/e7wJJps8

A new innovation from Theorem. Following a successful Smart Expo at the NEC look at what the future holds Video: Extended Reality (XR) - Why Now? How are augmented mixed, and virtual reality technologies revolutionizing design and manufacturing? Traditionally reliant on 3D models or 2D drawings, businesses are leveraging XR to enhance interaction with product designs. XR’s growth, fuelled by the gaming sector and industrial metaverse, enables immersive experiences for both CAD and non-CAD users through devices like headsets and tablets. This technology fosters global collaboration, real-world evaluations, and early issue detection, reducing costs and enhancing decision-making. XR’s accessibility and efficiency benefits present a significant opportunity for businesses to optimize design processes and operational challenges. Discover how Theorem Solutions enables businesses to harness XR’s full potential. Find out more >>> https://lnkd.in/eUrb5h3p

In addition to our two holography papers, we also have the third in a line of collaborations with our vision science colleagues using the Starburst high dynamic range headset. In order to build that headset we ignored all the normal limitations on power and weight, but we would like to see some of the perceptual benefits of high dynamic range displays in more practical headsets. In this new paper, Perceptually Adaptive Real-Time Tone Mapping, Taimoor Tariq, myself, Eric Penner, Jerry Jia, Douglas Lanman, Ajit Ninan, and Alexandre Chapiro developed an efficient optimization approach that dynamically adjusts tonemapper parameters so that a tone mapped image on display with lower peak luminance and a target raw image on a higher luminance display are perceived by the viewer to have contrasts that are as close as possible. In our user study, viewers found that the optimized tonemapper output was equivalent to unoptimized output on a display 10x brighter. While such an optimization can only go so far (we found in our previous paper that people are able to distinguish absolute peak luminances well beyond the capabilities of practical VR headsets), this technique can provide perceptual benefits that fixed or heuristic tonemapper settings cannot. Taimoor will be presenting this work on Wednesday at SIGGRAPH Asia in Sydney. Paper: https://lnkd.in/ggEWWwUf Session Info: https://lnkd.in/gFuBtCps #siggraphasia #vr

This is so amazing!! But... you have to educate the people and take them along. Otherwise great technical possibilities will be ignored or even dismissded as toys. One of the biggest problems in the digital transformation, misunderstanding and ignorance. I am curious and want to try out this Mojo lens one day. #futureoftech #ecommerce #digitaltransformation
